What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a lifestyle characterized by safe, effective exercise and sound nutrition. CrossFit can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to weight loss to better performance. The program works for everyone—people who are just starting out and people who have trained for years.
CrossFit
Our CrossFit classes are instructor led, and programmed for general physical preparedness (GPP). Our daily WOD (workout of the day) is written to challenge those that are already active and fit, simple enough to be modifiable to for most beginners, and all fitness levels in between. CrossFit Classes are designed to get you in and out with a good workout under an hour. We believe that CrossFit is the single most effective means of training for optimal general fitness.
CrossFit Competitor
We are proud to offer comprehensive training for all levels of CrossFit competitors. We provide programming suitable for competitors ranging from novices all the way to Games athletes.
At East Valley CrossFit, we approach competitive CrossFit training in the same manner as professional athletes. We periodize training over the course of a year, and at the pace suitable for the athlete’s development. Periodization is important to an athlete’s training as it allows for specialized focus on weaknesses, increases athletic longevity, and decreases the likelihood of injuries.

Kettlebell Club

Our gym is home to a kettlebell focused fitness program and competitive (Girvoy) sport lifting team led by coach Charlie Molina. The IKLF affiliated club trains and competes in kettlebell sport lifting where the focus is endurance weightlifting in the snatch, jerk, or clean & jerk lifts. To aid members in their fitness or competitive goals, our programming focuses on technical proficiency in the nuances of lifts as well as sport-specific conditioning. Both tracks aid members in developing not only technique and endurance, but also an understanding of functional movement and safe lifting practices.
The kettlebell is a simple and effective fitness tool with an easy learning curve for beginners. If you are new to EVSC, wanting to try a new sport, or looking to improve your CrossFit abilities, come check out our Kettlebell Club!
Personal Training and Small Group Training
No matter the reason you choose to improve your fitness, we believe that personal training is perfect for you! Our trainers have competed at the top of their sports and have extensive experience coaching people of various capabilities and skill levels. Personal programming allows you to cater workouts to your individual needs and gives our trainers the chance to provide individual guidance. This also creates an environment conducive to the development of the skills you need and to build up to the proper intensity at your own speed. If what you’re doing just isn’t enough, or you need a watchful eye, helping hand, or just a little motivational fortitude, contact any one of our trainers or call the gym today to set up your free one-hour consultation today!
Powerbuilding

Powerbuilding is an approach to strength training that combines components of Powerlifting and Bodybuilding. The program is based on the Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift supplemented with a wide variety of bodybuilding exercises. Powerbuilding allows for the development of strength & hypertrophy in one training program.
Sleds
The sled is a versatile and powerful tool used to develop conditioning, speed, strength, and may even be used as a means of active recovery. The sled can be pushed or pulled on load or speed settings. Other body weight movements such as running, jogging, walking, burpees, air squats and more may also be incorporated into sled workouts.
Workouts in this class can have different purposes depending on the desired outcome and can be done (with or without modification) by most fitness levels.
Find more information on how sleds can be used as a conditioning tool, see the following articles:

Upper Body
Upper Body Class is designed to address strength development, hypertrophy and muscular endurance. This is accomplished through the use of varied methodologies, adapted from Old School H.I.T, Bodybuilding and Powerlifting. Class is typically fast paced and lasts approximately one hour. This class can be helpful when training to change body composition, stimulate hypertrophy or to build the foundation for gymnastics movements.

Weightlifting & Iron Athlete Weightlifting Club
Weightlifting, also known as Olympic Weightlifting, focuses on the competition lifts of the Snatch and Clean & Jerk, with pulls, and squats to help build strength in the required positions needed in weightlifting. The weightlifting class is designed as a stand alone program and takes about 1-1.5 hours to complete. You’ll enjoy this class if you like improving your movement quality and building strength. A great place for all levels to get started in their fitness by building strength, or the CrossFitter looking to improve their technique.
Greg Glassman on Olympic Weightlifting: “There are two Olympic lifts, the Clean & Jerk and the Snatch . Mastery of these lifts develops the squat, deadlift, power clean, and split jerk while integrating them into a single movement of unequaled value in all of strength and conditioning. The Olympic lifters are without a doubt the world’s strongest athletes. These lifts train athletes to effectively activate more muscle fibers more rapidly than through any other modality of training. The explosiveness that results from this training is of vital necessity to every sport. Practicing the Olympic lifts teaches one to apply force to muscle groups in proper sequence, i.e., from the center of the body to its extremities (core to extremity). Learning this vital technical lesson benefits all athletes who need to impart force to another person or object as is commonly required in nearly all sports. In addition to learning to impart explosive forces, the clean and jerk and snatch condition the body to receive such forces from another moving body both safely and effectively. Numerous studies have demonstrated the Olympic lifts unique capacity to develop strength, muscle, power, speed, coordination, vertical leap, muscular endurance, bone strength, and the physical capacity to withstand stress. It is also worth mentioning that the Olympic lifts are the only lifts shown to increase maximum oxygen uptake, the most important marker for cardiovascular fitness. Sadly, the Olympic lifts are seldom seen in the commercial fitness community because of their inherently complex and technical nature. CrossFit makes them available to anyone with the patience and persistence to learn.”
